It was a Great Year!

The year is almost gone and I just needed to say THANK YOU for your support and encouraging words.
I get a new request, I research, I bake, design and deliver. I never feel it is complete though until I post on this blog. I thrive on your feedback and because of the exposure here and on Facebook, I haven't had to make a flyer, place an ad for my work or even display business cards somewhere. It is because of your reccomendations to your friends, family, neighbors and co-workers that I am able to keep it going!! I have made snapfish books to show off the variety of cupcakes I have made in the past year and if anyone would like to show in your office, meetings or home, let me know and I can get one out to you along with a sample.
A year ago, I had some reactions to my new endeavor that had me second guessing it myself but I had to take a chance and it has paid off! I will be making some changes in 2011 to keep it a success. There will be more options for frosting and going to experiment with some new recipes to offer more choices for cake as well. I even plan on using fillings!! I'm also going to charge for delivery based upon the mileage/location. The business part of it is not my strength and I've been advised by many of YOU to make these changes.
So THANK YOU for all the wonderful challenges and for the opportunity to allow my cupcakes to be a part of your celebrations. I am eager to get baking in 2011!!

Holidays Around the World

My best friend's son, Lucas, had an event at his school covering many holidays celebrated at this time of year around the world. I tried to represent many of the various holidays. Kwanzaa, Hanukah, Christmas, New Year's and Three Kings Day. It was great to see so many designs together as many of my orders are typically consist of just one or two designs. It's great knowing that the cupcakes made Lucas and his friends at school very happy! So when you hear Tis the season, remember there's many who are celebrating in their own different way!

It's time for new beginnings, new goals, a fresh new start. All I ask is that you do not omit Babycakes from 2011! One of my goals is to develop a great tasting cupcake that will give the recipient absolutely no guilt without compromising the quality. I hope that these special New Year Eve's cupcakes will make you feel the way you all make me feel inside....warm!!!

Luxurious Spa Di Da

So lucky to get involved with different types of celebrations! These are for a dual 6th Birthday party for Gaby and Sarika! They are hosting their party at their own "spa" called Luxurious Spa Di Da, where guests will be pampered with mani/pedis and yummy gourmet cupcakes! It gets my wheels turning for my own little girl's future parties with her friends. I loved this idea!!

These cupcakes were made for ELEGANT hair salon in Oyster Bay, NY. The client (Roseanne) wanted to surprise the owner with these as Grand Opening support. The customers getting a cut and blow today got a very sweet Thank You to go!
I am always excited with new and original opportunities to have my cupcake creations change the course of someone's day, with a smile!!

Cupcakes and Tigers & Bulldogs, Oh My!!

When I first heard of Celia's request for her birthday cupcakes, I thought it was an odd combo. Dogs and tigers? Well, after deciding on a design, I realized they are both beautiful creatures that share the grass and sky. Celia is such a free spirit, it would be so typical that she could see the odd couple as beautiful! Happy Birthday Celia Rose! I hope you have a woofderful roaring birthday!

Stuffed.

Yes, it's that time of year that our waist lines stretch and our taste buds are in overdrive. Thanksgiving is such a comfort holiday being with the ones we love and remembering all the many blessings we have as we celebrate over a big meal.
I browsed online and was inspired by cute everything and revised my cake slice to a pumpkin pie slice. My pumpkin cupcakes are so yummy, I love to eat em without any icing at all but today made a vanilla cream icing with pumpkin pie spice speckled throughout and it is divine! The turkeys are made from caramel so it's a cupcake/candy combo....sugar rush.
Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving and thanks for stopping by!

Surprise 70th!

Can I tell you how flattering it is to get a call for an order from someone who has never met me but yet has total faith that I can fulfill what they need? Well, I get such a thrill from these requests and always get most excited doing something new. Amy called me and needed cupcakes for her Dad's surprise 70th and she told me about him and we decided to use his hobbies for the toppers. I love the way they came out and such a welcome change from all the Halloween I've been doing for the past week. I hope Walter enjoys the party in his honor and the cupcakes that tell a little story about him.......

Give it away now

My Mom is so easy to please. She loves to bake and is famous for her friendship bread (it takes 10 days to prepare before baking!!), her rum cake and best of all, her Cuban flan. She will often bake for no reason and randomly select people in her life to share her baked goodness with so it comes as no surprise that the Church she is very dedicated to, asked her for a baked "donation" for a bake sale and she volunteered my Babycakes. I hope this small batch will stand up to her reputable edibles!!

Class Reunion

My good friend Mary was her class president in high school and did her duty to organize the Locust Valley Class Reunion. The Class of 90 is going to enjoy these chocolate, vanilla and pumpkin cupcakes! Mary had thought it would be a great party favor and I loved making each and every indivdual package. Mary is one of those people who will go out of her way to make sure she puts a smile on your face so I hope these made her happy.

Spooktacular Cupcakes!

When Nancy called me to order some cupcakes, I was so excited to do Halloween cupcakes for the first time! Her son, Cooper is six and is celebrating by having a very fun birthday party at his house. There's a scavenger hunt and guests are coming in costume! I made sure to include some of my birthday themed cupcakes in there using the same spooky colors so that it would all blend. It was so cute to see the guest of honor all excited when I made my delivery!

Crunching Numbers!

A new customer contacted me requesting cupcakes for the surprise party she was planning for her husband Paul. He had recently passed the CPA exam and that's plenty reason to celebrate. She had suggested calculators and I am so glad she did, a real representation of accountants that use the calculators with the paper scroll. The cupcake will be used as the party favors and hoping the guests really enjoy them!!
Congratulations Paul!!

Back to School!

It's that time again....time for sharp pencils, clean notebooks, new teachers, homework and tests! School symbols are universal for so many students and what a great way to celebrate the new school year and your birthday!! My friend Kristine, requested mini cupcakes for her daughter Lauren's birthday with this theme. It was a lot of fun making some of the fondant symbols smaller than usual and loved the end result. I hope that Lauren and her school friends think these make the grade!

Beep! Beep! Chase is 3!!!

My sweet son is THREE years old today and his personality is so positive and humorous. My kids see cupcakes all the time but their excitement never ceases. I always try to create something personal. Chase has a huge collection of toy cars and trucks and loves anything he can push or roll. I was initially going to make cupcakes decorated with wheels on top of them but thought it would be whimsical to have a little character winking at him! Lucky lil boy is getting another batch for school in just a couple of days which I plan on making chocolate cars.....coming soon!

Twice the Love!

Three years ago, I shared a hospital room with another new Mom. I had my baby boy and she had her baby boy AND baby girl! Yes, beautiful twins! We talked about everything under the sun and I felt lucky to have shared those first few days with such a caring and sweet woman. Here we are 3 years later and she requested cupcakes for her kids' Build-A-Bear birthday party. Hello Kitty for Gina and Dinosaurs for Louis. I found a tutorial from A Baked Creation and just couldn't help but make two of the various dinosaurs. They are individually boxed for the guests to take home and I think they turned out adorable!
I remember the day Janet was discharged from the hospital, she was wearing a tee shirt that read, "Twins, twice the love, half the sleep." Gina and Louis are pretty lucky ot have such a great Mommy!

Happy 6th Birthday Ry Ry!

These cupcakes were made with my very special ingredient of LOVE. Ryan requested Pokemon and Mario Bros. cupcakes. Home made banners were used instead of fondant for his class but really hoping I get a chance to use fondant for this theme for his actual party. It blows my mind that Ryan is already SIX years old! He is a great kid and hoping that when he eats his cupcake, he tastes the love inside!
Happy Birthday Ryan!!! I love you!

Rock Lobster !

This delicacy is for my number one customer, Michele. She and her husband host an annual "Lobster Night" in their home. Lobster Night consists of 2 lb. lobsters, filet mignon among other mouth watering food for close friends and family.
I wanted to make sure Michele knows for certain just how much her friendship and support means to me. This small token was just a simple "Thank You" for every encouragement she's offered me since day one.
The Cupcake is dark chocolate with vanilla frosting hand dipped in "sand," topped off with a red chocolate lobster.

Feliz Cumpleanos Abuela!

Small celebration for a big event....my Mom's 75th Birthday! My Mom requested simple. She wanted blue and pink flowers and simple. There are only 6 (including my kids) of us to eat these up so I tried to keep the quantity down but have no doubt these will all be consumed and enjoyed by all. The extras will make their way back to my grandmother's nursing home. There is so much I can say about my Mom. She is the first person I speak to daily (besides my kids) and the only person in the entire world I can honestly say, I have never seen bitter or mad at anyone. She leads by example and has an open heart. Having her be the center of attention and praise is so easy to do--we already celebrated on her actual birthday but without Mima (my grandmother). My brother and I hit the jackpot with Moms and the rest of the world has been blessed to have her as a daughter, sister, wife, abuela, neighbor, and friend.

Sixteen is soooo Sweet!

These vanilla chocolate chip mixed cupcakes were made for Amanda who is sixteen. She wanted her initial, the number 16, and colored daisies. Her Mom is a friend from the old neighborhood and it was great to be able to add to this special event. Amanda is a mature young girl who truly deserves all the best!! Happy 16th Birthday Amanda!

...and the fish was THIS Big!!!!!!

Big birthday fish for a Big Birthday Boy--John! This special assembled cupcake creation was made for John to add to his very festive birthday party. Mary, his Mom wanted an Under the Sea theme and instead of the common shells and starfish, she trusted me to make something unique. For the adults, burger slider cupcakes were made and after a round of water balloons or a refreshing dash down the water slide, this fishy will be gobbled up by happy guests.
Thank you Mary for your faith in me!!

Center of attention!

My first cupcake centerpiece and at one of the most lovely venues too! A friend of a friend contacted me and wanted tiffany blue cupcakes, possibly made with fondant butterflies on each, for a jack n' jill style bridal shower. We met and brainstormed. To keep things simple and less costly, we decided no fondant, but notice the fluttering butterfly at the top of the stand? A simple fabric butterfly attached with a wire gave the touch that the bride to be loves so much. Rosettes with a touch of clear sugars and a variety of the basic flavors. Stands were provided by the customer and the tea lites were also part of the brainstorm to keep cost down, elegance up. Eighty cupcakes later, I am feeling tired but super happy.
This week was time consuming for Babycakes but I'm pretty proud to have been able to please the customers and let my Babycakes get noticed!

Got Toys?

So it seems that I am the only person who hasn't seen any of the Toy Story films!! When I was asked to make 4 dozen Toy Story 3 cupcakes for Charlotte who turned 4, I was a little nervous. It was so much fun doing the "research" though!!
I suggested banners for the characters I did not think I could mimic in fondant form and thankfully, Mom agreed. I hope the birthday guests enjoy eating them as much as I enjoyed making them!!

Alot of love and time so a bit pricey but so worth the impact. Thank you Bakerella and to Shella who ordered these with alot of faith in me!

Cozy Cupcakes!

I am officially cupcake crazed! Went shopping with the family for some back to school essentials and kept getting sidetracked with all the cupcakey items I'd find. Everything from a cupcake calculator, pencil sharpener and clothing to these fuzzy slippers purchased from a children's store for myself!! I must confess that it makes me nervous that cupcakes are so trendy. I mean it's great for business right now but scared it will all burn off quickly too.

Nothing fishy bout these cupcakes!

Mermaids are just what Riley wanted for her 4th birthday celebration and after some browsing online, Riley's Mom, Korrine, agreed that these would do! Inspired from Sweet & Flour.

You're Invited....

My number one customer, Michele, asked me to make one dozen vanilla cupcakes for a bridal shower held for her sister in-law to be. She mailed me the invite for the wedding as a template for what to put on the cupcakes. Very simple but no mistaking a tasty preview of the special event around the corner!

Lindsey turns 4!!

I offered my daughter Lindsey the moon and stars....I showed her many pictures of various cupcakes and told myself I would try to create anything she wanted for the celebration at our house. She wanted small flowers and the number 4. I added her name bands with additional flowers. I kept thinking these are soooo simple. No shooting stars or long hours involved....
She was more than pleased and gobbled up her little flowers with a smile on her adorable face.

V.I.P

My friend Michele is hosting a "Cousins Party" at her home and wanted all her younger guests to feel like V.I.Ps so she asked me to personalize each child's cupcake. I thought this was such a neat idea! The older kids have their choice of chocolate cupcakes topped off with vanilla frosting and colored sugars.
Michele is a real treasure of a friend but today I wish I were her cousin!
